![]() ![]() Aengus Malachi O'SullivanAengus (pronounced 'eng-iss') from aon meaning 'excellent' and gus meaning 'strength, vigor.' Malachi (pronounced 'mala-ki') means 'my angel' or 'messenger of God'. O'Sullivan stemmed from Irish Gaelic meaning 'little dark-eyed one'. Aengus is a Sidhe, an Irish faerie, who is a Fallen Angel. He existed in a previous time and world before ending up in Heaven. Now he's here and enjoying his human form very much. He comes with the typical happy-go-lucky spirit of the Irish; mischievous and cheeky, likes a good joke, can always see the humour in any given situation - even certain death. However, like any Sidhe, Aengus can have a dark and dangerous side when wronged which is what makes him ultimately a protector to the charge to whom he is sent. Should a mortal wrong him or those he is guiding, he can react viciously and become obsessed with the recipient's death as vengeance, which may cause him to become a powerful adversary. He will turn on his own should they wrong him also, and those who are his 'own' he will secure the bond via an oath from them which can make or break them. Aengus can also heal those supernatural creatures who don't have natural healing ability, but he cannot save them from death and he can't heal humans. Aengus communicates with the supernatural world via playing the harp. He is fluent in it, and the music he makes can act as a communication tool, much like a banshee's scream. He also has the ability to use the music to his advantage, but on the face of it, he is just an extremely talented harpist. Aengus fell to Earth and scored the body of a young Irish lad attending Oxford University, who was about to get himself killed in a car crash one snowy night after spending too long at the library. He averted the car crash and the family were lead to believe he escaped with just some cuts and bruises, but he had to be clever about assuming the guy's identity (who seemed to only exist in the first place as Aengus' ultimate vessel). It didn't take him long, and he became proud of the family he managed to fall in to. His "mother" was a divorced veterinarian in Dublin, Ireland, and his "father", a croupier, had moved to the Gold Coast, Australia, because he fell in love with a woman there and decided to stay put so they could get married. She had a son of her own, the same age as Aengus' predecessor, so the first thing Aengus did was fly to Australia during the university summer break to spend time with the other half of his family. He struck up a very close relationship with his stepbrother, Lance Valentine. The marriage between his mother and Aengus' father was very new at the time, so Aengus' mum did encourage him to make the connection. He and Lance had very similar personalities, but just before Lance auditioned for the TV talent show, Aengus had to reluctantly return to England and resume the university course which was a bore because his intelligence functioned differently to a human. He persisted, until he got news from America that Lance had fallen ill in the middle of a huge charity Christmas concert and the prognosis was ultimately serious. He told his mum he was going to quit Oxford and go to America to see Lance, and would worry about his studies another time. She was annoyed, and it lead to an argument where Aengus' Sidhe temperament came out for the first time with her. She knew to back off and that she had to let him do what he pleased because he was an adult. Aengus felt guilty in the wake of it, because she had just bore the brunt of a personality that wasn't her son's that she gave birth to and it was a learning curve for him to try to keep a reign on his temperament. The trigger was his stepbrother being in danger, and his innate need to protect him reared its ugly head. Still, Aengus is now ready to land in New York, and who the hell knows what is supposed to come next. The Sidhe (pronounced shee)The Sidhe or people of the mounds, or "The Lordly Ones" or "The Good People" (Daoine Maithe in Irish Gaelic) were descended from the "Tuatha de Danann" who settled in Ireland millennia ago and in being defeated by the Milesians they retreated to a different dimension of space and time than our own, believed to be living under mounds and fairy raths and cairns, and also the land of "Tír na nÓg", a mythical island to the west of Ireland. Placenames in Ireland with the pre-nouns Lis, Rath, and Shee are associated with these people for example Lismore, Lisdoonvarna, Sheemore, Rathfarnham etc.Down through the ages the Sidhe have been in contact with mortals giving protection, healing and even teaching some of their skills to mortals - Smithcraft or the working of metals being one such skill. The Gaelic word sí or síog refers to these otherworldly beings now called fairies. The Irish fairy is not like the diminutive fairies of other European countries, the Sidhe are described as tall and handsome in all accounts, also they are dressed very richly and accounts of their halls are of richly decorated places with sumptuous foods and drinks. It is said that the fairies are angels who have fallen from heaven, but whose sins were not great enough to warrant hell. During the War of Heaven there were angels who refused to take either God's or Lucifer's side. For their lack of action they were banished from heaven. They are generally human-like though there are exceptions such as the Puca or Mermaid. The defining features of the Irish fairies are their supernatural abilities and their temperament. If treated with respect and kindness, Irish fairies can be quite benevolent; however, if they are mistreated they will react cruelly. The Sidhe are generally benign until angered by some foolish action of a mortal. Many trees and mounds are considered under their protection and if a mortal destroys or damages these then a curse is put upon himself and his family. In some parts of the countryside people would not build their houses over certain "fairy paths" because of the type of disturbances which would ensue. The Sidhe folk are clever, dangerous, and often friendly. Though they bind humans by oaths, they are inclined to interpret these oaths however they choose and often to their own benefit. All Sidhe folk can wield magical powers and the abilities of shapeshifting. Harp Legend & FolkloreThe harp has occupied a place in myth, legend, and lore for as long as it has been around as an instrument. Perhaps because of it’s powerful effect upon the body and the senses, including it’s ability, when properly played, to transport the listener to an elevated state of consciousness. So it is not surprising that the harp shows up as a significant symbol in many cultures. Because of its association with the divine, angels are often depicted playing harps. The harp has a significant place in Irish Mythology. It is depicted as a powerful manipulator of emotions and bodily states, endowed with the ability to make those who hear it laugh or cry uncontrollably, and it also has the power to induce sleep” (Harp Mythology). The Dagda, a mythological Irish chieftain, was renowned for his beautiful harp, which was said to come to him when he called. The magic qualities of the harp inspired warriors as they went into battle, and soothed them when they returned. Teen Wolf PSL @ beaconhillshigh and untiltheendstarts Aengus fell to earth roughly about the time Scott McCall transformed into an Alpha werewolf but wasn't willing to step right in on his earthly assignment until he knew how much work he was in for. He kept watch on the going's on in Beacon Hills from a distance, whilst living it up as a wanderer, travelling around the USA and basically experiencing all the shiny things the modern-day human earth had to offer. He kept his ear to the ground, however, but it soon became obvious to him that the Emissary to Scott's pack wasn't going to naturally tap into his gift, Aengus knew it was time to step in as the guider, or the proverbial "nudge in the right direction". Aengus is not here tell the Emissary how to do his job, but rather be sort of a Jiminy Cricket or Yoda to him. He couldn't tell him how to do his job even if he wanted to. In a sense, he is a guardian angel to Scott's pack, but only in a way to make sure his Emissary has the tools to be the advisor and guider to the pack. They still have the ability to fuck up and get themselves killed. He's not a God, just a messenger from one. They couldn't risk him falling into grave danger every time the pack faces troubles just because he's supposed to be a lowly human. He's far from that. In fact, without him, the entire pack would be dead and buried right now... and they know it too. About to land on Stiles Stilinski's doorstep, Aengus' mission is to make sure he comes into his Emissary position to ensure Scott can protect his pack and the good of the werewolf kind. Aengus existed in a previous time and world before ending up in Heaven. Now he's here and enjoying his human form very much. He comes with the typical happy-go-lucky spirit of the Irish; mischievous and cheeky, likes a good joke, can always see the humour in any given situation - even certain death, because certain death is never certain as long as there is an Emissary willing to do the job they were delivered to do. He also has the ability to use the music to his advantage, but on the face of it, he is just an extremely talented harpist. He has used the harp as a way to keep in touch with the outfall of the Nematon in Beacon Hills, so he knows exactly what his charge has had going down of late. He had no choice but to sit back and just wait for the pack to release Stiles from the clutches of the nogitsune, for as long as he was controlled by the trickster demon, Aengus had no way of getting Stiles to enter into an oath with him. Aengus is an Original Character predominently used for musebox/psl, dreamlikenewyork. He is a Sidhe, a Fallen Angel, and though he's more than aware of his abilities, he mostly moonlights as a general human unless he sees something he should intervene on.![]() |
